Soft phones are "communication applications" that run on your PC. Some look like traditional phones, while others are more tightly integrated into desktop applications, making their utility more seamless. Benefits of soft phones are their mobility enablement and their ability to integrate Unified Communications into a variety of business applications.

    Alcalte-Lucent OmniDesktop 4980 SoftPhoneThe OmniDesktop 4980 is an advanced PC telephony application that manages communications and information by linking the desktop PC and voice calling. On the PC side, it seamlessly integrates with most popular workgroup applications and is open to other business applications. For voice-path, it can either use the employees regular telset automatically, or it can provide its own IP telephony functionality through the PC with a voice-component plug-in. The 4980 can connect directly to the OmniPCX Enterprise and is also fully compatible the OmniTouch 8400 Instant Communications Server (ICS).

Integrated directly into the office environment, this solution can easily be adapted to meet different user needs. As all PIMphony software can be used to transform a multimedia PC into an IP terminal, it is particularly cost-effective for remote and mobile workers.

    The PIMphony software releases are:

    • PIMphony Basic

      Provides users with standard telephone functions directly on their PC. All features, including dial-by-name, transfer and conference calling, can be managed with a simple click of the mouse. The application registers and tracks data such as caller identity and call date and duration.
